New proposal for gun safety information in Michigan

A proposal in Michigan would require that schools share information about the safe storage law with parents.

The law was signed last year and requires that adults keep their guns locked up if they are in an area that’s accessible to children. Bridge Michigan reports that some of the parents of victims of the 2021 Oxford school shooting testified in support of the new proposal on Tuesday.

The bill would require the distribution of the information either electronically or by mail to student’s families. That information includes gun storage requirements and guidance on how to get gun locks and gun safes.
