Elkhart man killed, another critically hurt after crash at Indiana, Benham Avenue

The Elkhart Police Department Fatal Crash Team is investigating a fatal one-car crash.

It was around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 21st, when police were called an Elkhart Police Department officer on patrol spotted a Pontiac Torrent that had struck a light pole near the intersection of West Indiana Avenue and Benham Avenue. There were two men in the SUV.

The Elkhart Fire Department arrived and helped remove the entrapped men from inside the vehicle.

Medics rushed both men to the hospital.

The front seat passenger, identified as Montrell Curtis, 32, of Elkhart, was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly thereafter. The driver, a 27-year-old man from Elkhart, remained in critical condition as of Monday morning.
