UPDATE: Elkhart County pedestrian struck and killed by pickup truck in Simonton Lake area

Update: The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Timothy Mabry.

A pedestrian walking along the road in Elkhart County was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded to C.R. 11 north of Aqua Dr. in the Simonton Lake area at around 5:50 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release.

Officers say the pickup was headed southbound on County Road 11 when the driver tried to pass another car, but veered off and hit a pedestrian who was walking along the east side of the road. The driver of the pickup didn’t stop and instead continued on.

Investigators are looking for a Chevy pickup with damage to a front headlight and a side mirror.
