South Bend police searching for armed robber at Doubletree Hotel.

There was a large police presence in downtown South Bend Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that took place just before 4 a.m. at the reception desk of the DoubleTree Hotel.

South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski, appearing on Michiana’s Morning News, told us no guests were robbed. He says police were searching for a black male suspect in a red hunting hat and dark jacket carrying a woman’s purse and armed with a handgun. He was in his late 30s or early 40s and was said to have left on foot in the direction of the hospital.

No injuries were reported in the incident and the public was not believed to be in any danger.
