South Bend police investigating apparent drive-by shooting

The South Bend Police Department is investigating an apparent drive-by shooting.

It happened early Monday evening in the 600 block of S. 36th Street, according to ABC 57.

Witnesses told police a woman across the street from the incident was hit in the thigh by a stray bullet. Officials say a vehicle drove by at began shooting at a house, and people in the house returned fire.

She is the third innocent bystander struck by gunfire in the city in two days and was treated for her injuries.

So far, there is no word on a motive that led to the exchange. There is also no word on any suspects or arrests.
