Car rental employee hits lawncare worker, crashes into restaurant

An employee of Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Edison Road in Mishawaka struck a man working on the lawn, then backed up into the India Garden Restaurant, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sep. 2.

The 32-year-old lawn care worker cutting grass next to the restaurant was he was struck by the SUV, according to witnesses.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend where he underwent surgery. He was last listed in critical condition, according to the prosecutor’s office.

A chef inside at the restaurant told 95.3 MNC no one was hurt inside the building.

The chef said the restaurant would remain open, despite the damage done.

Traffic on Edison Road was restricted to one lane in each direction while the St. Joseph County FACT Team investigated the crash.

There are no indications that intoxication was a factor in this case., according to the prosecuctor’s office.

Investigators are still determining whether this crash was a result of mechanical failure, medical condition or human error.
