An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is recovering from a gunshot wound.

The officer was shot on Saturday, July 16, while at a stand-off with a suicidal man, according to an IMPD spokesperson.

Officers were giving the man verbal commands in an attempt to get him to drop the weapon. An officer used a taser to subdue the individual and at that point a shot was fired from the suicidal man’s gun. The bullet struck the officer in the back of the leg, the IMPD spokesperson stated.

The suspect was taken into custody after being tased.

The officer, who is an eight-year veteran with the force, was taken to the hospital in good condition with a non-life threatening injury, according to CBS 4 Indy.
