More than 2,900 people are without power in Michiana on Wednesday afternoon after a semi crashed into a power pole in Elkhart.

Indiana Michigan Power is reporting the following outages as of 12:30 p.m.:

Elkhart Co., IN 609
St. Joseph Co., IN 2,119
Cass Co., MI 184
IN totals: 2,728
MI totals: 184
Total Outages 2,912

The outage happened after a semi hit a utility pole on C.R. 13 near C.R. 6 in Elkhart just after 9:30 a.m., Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department said.

Crews are working on restoring power, but Snyder said the outage could last into the evening hours.

C.R. 13 is closed between C.R. 6 and Reedy Drive, Snyder said. The power outage is also causing congested traffic at some intersections where the lights are out. Drivers should drive with caution.

The outage is also affecting the Indiana Toll Road, where some toll booths can’t process credit card payments. Drivers who don’t have cash will be billed.
