LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Senate will not vote on energy policy this year, and it is unlikely the chamber will consider a bailout and overhaul of Detroit Public Schools either.

They are the top legislative priorities for Gov. Rick Snyder after the Legislature’s recent passage of a road-funding package.

Republican Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof said Tuesday the Senate will wait until early next year to pass an energy plan. The House is expected to vote on its legislation next week.

The Senate’s point person on a proposed $715 million rescue of Detroit’s debt-ridden district, Sen. Geoff Hansen, says he continues working to introduce a plan outlined by Snyder and that faces resistance.

He says the goal is to propose bills this month, and it is uncertain if hearings will be held.
