People in Logansport are concerned that too many people from other countries are moving to their area at a rate that’s not sustainable.
At a Logansport City Council meeting on Monday, former Logansport Democrat Mayor Dave Kitchell told the current Republican mayor Chris Martin to resign.
“What exactly do you expect us to do? Serious question. Because you were a mayor. And you think I should resign because I’m not doing my job?,” Martin said.
“I would say that you step down and we get a city manager that knows what he’s doing,” said Kitchell.
“Not gonna happen,” replied Martin.
Other people who live in Logansport said at the meeting that the city’s services are being impacted. One person stated that the “rents are high” and the “social systems,” along with the schools and the police department, are overwhelmed.
Martin said he plans on hiring more translators, address mental health concerns, and make sure proper protocol is being followed.
Both Martin and members of the city council, encouraged residents to email them or have one-on-one conversations about this they can find solutions.
