Berrien County moving forward with Juvenile Center upgrades

Berrien County is moving forward with electrical and water line upgrades at the Juvenile Center.

The Board of Commissioners approved contracts to plan the water, sewer and wiring upgrades.

According to WSJM, the 5-year-old facility is at or beyond its life expectancy, but the investment is necessary.

Because of the increase in construction costs, County Administrator Brian Dissette says a new facility is out of reach. So, the upgrades will buy some time at the current juvenile center.

The design work will cost the county about $350,000, with the upgrades project itself projected to cost around $3.5 million.
