Public hearing scheduled to address Elkhart proposed water rate increase

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will be hosting a hearing next week regarding the increased Elkhart water rates

Elkhart Municipal Water Works filed a petition with the IURC in February requesting approval to increase rates and charges for water utility service.

Current rates were established in 2007, and the city says the revenue coming from water utility are no longer enough to cover operations.

So, they’re holding a hearing for members of the public to ask any questions or offer any comments about the proposed increase. It’s happening on October 1 at 6 p.m. at Elkhart City Hall.

Written comments can also be submitted to the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor online.
