A former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department chaplain is accused of sexually abusing a child “over 100 times.”

73-year-old Sylvester Driscoll is charged with child molestation, which is a level 1 felony.

Court documents say police started investigating Driscoll after a young girl confessed to her school counselor in August that Driscoll had been raping and sexually abusing her for years.

The child’s teacher told police that the victim was showing signs of sexual abuse. The child says Driscoll started showing her videos of adults having sex when she was five years old and then began assaulting her not long after that.

The documents go on to say that when the child was asked how many times Driscoll abused her, she said “like 100 times” over the last couple of years. She also said Driscoll would threaten her to keep her from telling anyone about the sexual encounters.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Driscoll was a civilian employee for the department from June 1996 to May 2019, but is no longer associated with the department.

He also was a chaplain for the Southport Police Department. A Facebook post from Southport Police in 2021 shows Driscoll retiring as the department’s chaplain. Videos posted online by an Indiana church show Driscoll, introduced as “The Singing Policeman of Indianapolis,” performing several religious songs.

Driscoll could get up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
