Five people have been charged in connection with an armed robbery that took place over the weekend in the 300 block of Middlebury Street in Elkhart. The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the charges follow an investigation by the Elkhart Police Department.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 13, when a male and female arrived at the Elkhart Police Department to report the robbery. According to the victims, they were lured to the location by a friend. Once parked, multiple male suspects approached their vehicle. One of the suspects allegedly held a knife to the female victim, struck her with a gun, and stole her knife. Meanwhile, the male victim was forced to hand over his wallet and vape under threat from another armed suspect.

Following the report, police obtained a search warrant for an apartment at 304 Middlebury Street. During the search, officers discovered a 17-year-old male suspect hiding inside the residence, armed with multiple firearms.

The investigation led to the arrest of two 17-year-old suspects, Issac Duckworth and Kaleb Goodwin, both from Elkhart. They have been charged with two counts of armed robbery, classified as Level 3 felonies. Both suspects are being held on a $100,000 bond each.

Additionally, three others; E’Marri Redmond, 19, Carrie Layton, 20, and Alora Layton, 18, all from Elkhart-were also arrested on Satruday. They face similar charges of armed robbery, with bonds also set at $100,000 each.
