Indiana State Police were called to assist the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office after a woman they were trying to evict and arrest for criminal trespass barricaded themselves inside a home.
It happened around 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, when deputies arrived at a home in the 13000 block of US 6 in Marshall County to evict 63-year-old Jennifer Japa and arrest her for criminal trespass after the property had been sold.
Japa allegedly pointed a long gun at the deputies before retreating into the house. Deputies then backed off and requested support from the Indiana State Police.
Additional troopers, negotiators, and the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team were dispatched to the scene.
After several hours, Japa was safely taken into custody around 1:23 p.m. as she exited the residence. She was arrested for criminal trespass and a new charge of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony, which was filed during the standoff.
Japa was then taken to the Marshall County Jail.
