South Bend man found guilty of 2021 shooting death of Ashanti Hines

Quadir Quiroz, 19, of South Bend, has been found guilty after a jury trial for the October 2021 shooting death of Ashanti Hines, 19, of South Bend.

Quiroz, is accused of killing Ashanti Hines, 19, as she sat parked in a vehicle in the 1000 block of Yukon Street.

According to court documents, Hines was not the intended target. Instead, Quiroz and another man were allegedly shooting at a man she was in the vehicle with.

While serving a warrant to Quiroz three days after the shooting, police found a gun at a home he was at whose casings matched those found at the scene of Hines’ murder.

Quiroz was found guilty of murder and a felony firearm enhancement.

The sentencing range for murder is 45 to 65 years, and the sentencing range for the firearm enhancement is 5 to 20 years.

Quiroz will be sentenced on Oct. 4.
