Michigan falling short so far on EV goals in state fleet vehicles

Michigan’s Governor Whitmer is a big supporter of Electric Vehicles…but most of the state-owned vehicle fleet is still gas-powered.

Whitmer says she wants the state’s car and light-truck fleet to be converted to zero-emission EVs by 2033. When she released the plan in early June, Michigan only had 10 EVs in the fleet. Heading into August, just 14 of the state’s nearly 14,500 vehicles are electric, according to Bridge Michigan.

Funding is still part of the problem, with one million dollars planned per year and the rest of the plan unbudgeted and uncertain. Whitmer has said she wants the state to “lead by example” on EVs.
