A law clerk was held in contempt of court and sentenced to jail time on Friday.
That’s according to Leader Publications. Rosemary Kuerbitz, a law clerk for the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after being arrested for contempt of court.
The incident happened in November last year in Marcellus when 42-year-old Benjamin Lewis assaulted a woman, pushing her down, choking her, dragging her by a hair and hitting her with a stick.
Lewis was found guilty of third offense domestic violence and was sentenced to three years probation and 210 days in jail with credit for 107 days served.
However, that sentence did not sit well with Kuerbitz, who screamed at Judge Herman that the sentences he gives are “absymal” and “absolutely insane.”

I’m glad judge Herman did that! Let’s see how abysmal and Insane she thinks her 30 days is! She was so disrespectful!
Cass County would be a safer place if Judge Herman didn’t give out sentences below guidelines and locked up a 3rd time offender. Yes, what she did was wrong, but watching Judge Herman doing this over and over again can cause someone to lose their cool. Ms. Kuerbitz deserves a medal for saying what we all think instead of jail time.
