Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for a new apartment development in South Bend.

The building, called Diamond View Apartments, will go in right across the street from the baseball diamond at Four Winds Field, forming a four-story building with 60 apartments.

WSJM reports that 12 of those apartments will be set aside for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

They say the Diamond View apartment building will house low-income tenants.

And, plans call for a second building to be built with 90 apartments that will rent at market rate.

Diamond View is expected to be complete in about a year.
