As lifeguards in Washington Park in Michigan City were getting ready for their shift, Saturday morning, they noticed several people struggling in the water.
Eight guards responded and brought five people to shore.
Michigan City Fire crews say rough water and rip currents contributed to unsafe swimming conditions that day.
They say a rip current pulled the family out and they just didn’t know what to do.
One person had to be taken to the hospital, but is now doing well.
