Council votes no on Dave Matthews tax abatement

A funding battle ended Monday night when South Bend’s Common Council voted against extending a tax abatement for developer Dave Matthews on his 300 East development.
The decision came after more than two hours of public comments from people supporting and opposing the extension.
The extension would have saved Matthews hundreds of thousands of dollars in property taxes over the next decade if granted.
The city is suing Matthews for missing multiple deadlines in connection to the development.
