Changes are coming to the support structure in Indiana for families who adopt or foster children.
Starting July 1, families who provide a home through adoption or eligible guardianships to a child in Indiana’s foster care system will receive financial support equal to 100% of the amount the child received while in foster care. That’s according to a release from the Indiana Department of Child Services, which provides the subsidies through the state’s Adoption Assistance Program.
Families had been receiving up to 50%, a number that could be higher based on negotiation.
This allows caretakers in Indiana to be better equipped to meet the needs of the children, and eliminates the need for negotiations and removes a potential barrier that can delay finding a permanent home.
