Michigan’s Department of Agriculture is rolling out relief to the state’s dairy farmers who have been impacted by the spread of the bird flu.

Nationwide, the outbreak has killed nearly 100 million chickens, and has infected cattle herds in a dozen states. Twenty-five Michigan farms have reported impacts in ten counties, and over six million birds have been impacted.

Bridge Michigan reports that funding of up to $28,000 is available for 20 Michigan farms, if the farms agree to participate in long-term state and federal studies and complete investigations related to the epidemic.

Two human farmworkers in the state have been infected with avian flu after working closely with infected cows.
