A semitruck driver was cited after driving illegally high cargo through Howard Township on Monday.

It happened shortly after 9 a.m. near Niles and Carberry Road.

The semitruck took out multiple utility lines and caused severe damage to utility poles. Michigan State Police say the driver fled the scene but was later stopped in Cassopolis by a Cass County deputy.

According to ABC 57, the driver later admitted to leaving the scene of the crash with intentions of not reporting his involvement.

He was issued citations for driving with his cargo over height, not having a valid license and leaving the scene of a crash.
