A 62-year-old woman was charged with battery and strangulation after allegedly beating and choking a child.

Delois Dawson, was formally charged with three counts of battery and one count of strangulation. According to ABC 57 News, the charges come after the victim told the school nurse that her back and arms hurt.

A physical exam showed injuries in both places, and, according to the victim, the woman had hit, punched and choked the victim in the past.

The victim stated that she had been beaten with a belt and had been choked with two hands in a back-and-forth motion, but said that the suspect had stopped choking her because she didn’t want to kill her.

Dawson reportedly told police that the victim and witnesses were lying and had lied before.
