City of South Bend reminds residents to remove bins from street on day of collection

The City of South Bend would like to remind residents to remove trash bins from the street or tree lawn areas on the day of collection.
Trash bins left in the open make it difficult for snowplows to clear residential streets. Exposed bins may also get plowed in, making them inaccessible to trash pickup crews.
The City would also like to remind residents and businesses that sidewalks must be clear of snow and ice within 24 hours of a snowfall or ice accumulation. Sidewalk clearance is the responsibility of the resident or business on the property. Residents are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors during winter weather events and assist them with snow removal.
If residents have a fire hydrant on their property, shovel around it to keep the hydrant free of snow and ice. An easily accessible hydrant can save firefighters valuable time during a fire.
