State law currently does not prohibit the use of drones over state and county correctional facilities, but a new bill is seeking to change that.
Senate Bill 182 looks to create a “no-drone zone” after drones were seen over correctional facilities over 30 times in 2023.
Over twelve of those were confirmed “drops.” One of those drops was recovered from inside the fence line on one of the facility grounds and was found to hold a black bag containing tobacco, six cell phones, four chargers and marijuana.
The bill was passed out of the Committee of Corrections and Criminal Law.
