The Mishawaka man who was rescued six days after crashing his vehicle off of I-94 in Porter County is issuing a warning to anybody who’s driving in these bitter-cold temperatures.

In a post on Facebook, Matt Reum (ree-um) stated that those who do go out for any length of drive, especially those long ones, to learn from his mistakes and to make sure to have a couple of people know where you’re going as well as when you should be coming back.

He also says something he learned is to always carry an extra jacket and change of clothes in your car as well as a good wool blanket where you can reach it. He also stated that he wishes he could go out and enjoy the cold and snow.

Reum remains hospitalized after having undergone an amputation to his leg.

Rescuers say the warmer-than-normal temps at the time worked in his favor to keep him alive after he became trapped in the wreckage.
