Andrew Royer, who wrongfully imprisoned for 17 years, has secured a record-breaking $11,725,000 settlement from the City of Elkhart and former police officers—Indiana’s largest wrongful conviction settlement.
Exonerated in 2021, Royer’s false confession to the 2002 murder of Helen Sailor was coerced, violating his rights.
The City of Elkhart has paid a total of $26,625,000 to four exonerees.
Royer continues his lawsuit against Deputy Dennis Chapman, Prosecutor Vicki Becker, and Elkhart County.

It’s unfortunate to see this, and it’s crazy how many metropolitan county and cities across Indiana are in this same situation or are pending. Then there’s guys like GM who are questionable characters, making statements towards people with pending cases who make it even worse.
People really gotta wake up and figure out the truth in there position whether they are part of the problem or the solution.
