Indiana BMV earns nearly $26 million from selling people’s personal information

(Photo supplied/Elkhart Truth)
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will earn nearly $26 million from selling people’s personal information.
The BMV collects information like people’s name, age, and address and has sold that for years.
Bills have been introduced the last two years to give people the option to say no to that, but have not been given a hearing in the state Senate.

Why are people allowed to sell my personal information? They sell it for profit. Lots of profit. They never asked me if they could sell anything that belongs to me. Let alone my “personal information”. Over twenty million dollars and I don’t get a dime of it. Shame on you BMV. Shame on you State of Indiana.

Shame on The State of Indiana and BMV…
I “NEVER GAVE PERMISSION, FOR YOU TO SELL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION”.
AND NEVER GIVEN A CHANCE TO OPT OUT….
THIS IS JUST WRONG…
AND ANOTHER REASON WHY PEOPLE ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH IDENTITY THEFT AND FRAUD….
THIS MONEY SHOULD BE SPLIT AND GIVEN BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF INDIANA WHO HAVE USED THE BMV, FOR AS MANY YEARS AS THEY HAVE BEEN COLLECTING IT…………..
IT SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW, LIKE HIPPA…
FOR THEM TO BENEFIT FROM ALL OF US.

I’m thinking ”Class action law suit”. I know, I know, but something needs to be done to see that this action stops, and is not allowed to ever happen again. My worry is that this information will be sold a second,
Or even a third time and I’ll loose everything I’ve worked for all my life. It started with people abusing our Social Security accounts. Things can be bought, you could loose your house, you could be arrested because someone has a driver’s license, ss card, and bank account using
YOUR name. A damn child can get your information and spend THOUSANDS of dollars ‘of’your” money before it’s even noticed. This is a very serious problem that has to be addressed.

I think you’ll are pathetic! How dare you sell MY PERSONAL INFORMATION 😤 without any consent from me! It’s bad enough you charge us $25 in wheel tax for each vehicle and now you are profiting from selling my info and I don’t get anything. 🤬

Can I get some of that money since you are selling MY personal information? Can we all use the BMV for this? There are laws and Amendments in place about my privacy! My personal information is my private information. This is wrong and sick I’m so many ways it makes me what to puke! 🤢😡

This is unlawful. How can we give our information and they make a profit that’s like the the State Police or IRS selling our information we submit to them so crooked. And for the entire city to make money off of it is wrong in many ways. Especially since we never agreed to this. Now I understand why I get so many spam calls daily

There is way too much identity theft for the Indiana bMV to continue selling personal info for billions in profit
Shame on those responsible for this process

Yes, I’m upset about this. Gov does what the hell they want. Don’t look now folks, but the people who are mapping your DNA (i.e. 23 &Me ), are also selling it for a profit. The people who are buying the DNA use it in research to develop all kinds of meds and patent same… So, who asked me? No one…

How is it they are allowed to do this withoutour our permission. I was never asked if i was OK with them selling my information for their gain. Why would they think people would be ok with this ? We need to form a class action suite against this asap!!!! Especially since I’ve been a victim of identity theft…
