New ID and license plate rolling out in Michigan

A design will be returning to Michigan license plates.

The Michigan Department of State says they’re bringing back the green and white “Winter Wonderland” license plate.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says its to pay tribute to the civil rights in 1963. There’s also a new ID design, to protect from identity theft, fraud, and other crime.

The new license plates can be ordered starting on January 27th. In regard to the new ID, it will have the Michigan Coat or Arms and the names of the five Great Lakes.

On May 7th, 2025, an ID without the real ID-compliant indicator will not be accepted on flights. Current IDs are valid until they expire.
