One person dead after shooting on South Bend’s west side

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is currently investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a gas station on the city’s west side.

On Thursday, Dec. 21, around 12:50 a.m., South Bend Police were called to the Phillips 66 station in the 4000 block of W. Western on the initial report of a possible robbery in progress. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim, said to be a male, was taken to the hospital where they they died.

The shooting is believed to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to our community, according to South Bend Police.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is handling this investigation.
