Firefighters in Indiana are on high alert due to dry conditions that increase the risk of outdoor brush and field fires.
The ongoing harvest season has left the ground littered with dry leaves, and the lack of rainfall has led to burn bans being declared in some counties.
Currently, burn bans are in place across the state.
The fall season exacerbates the fire concerns in the region. However, the heightened fire risk is not limited to the counties under burn bans.
Firefighters recommend that all residents remain cautious and act as if a burn ban is in effect. Regulations regarding burn bans may vary from county to county, but outdoor fires are generally prohibited unless contained in charcoal grills or patio fire pits.
If using a fire pit or grill, it is essential to be mindful of wind that could carry hot ash onto dry grass or leaves.
