Elkhart Community Schools announces schedule change for all district secondary schools

Effective for the upcoming 2023-24 school year, all students attending secondary schools within the Elkhart Community Schools school district will operate on a 1 hour delay for every Monday in which classes are in session. These impacted schools include Elkhart High School, North Side Middle School, Pierre Moran Middle School, and West Side Middle School. The change was implemented to allow for more professional development time for ECS staff.
Dismissal times at impacted schools will not be delayed, and will remain the same as the rest of the week. Transportation will still be available to impacted students on Mondays, though families can expect pickup to be delayed by approximately 1 hour compared to Tuesdays through Fridays. In the event of a 2 hour delay on a Monday, secondary schools will follow the standard school week procedure, and classes will begin 2 hours later than they would have on any other day of the week.
This change does not impact the schedule or transportation logistics for any ECS elementary schools. AM students at the Elkhart Career Center will also be excluded from these 1-hour delays, and will continue operations as normal on Mondays.
The first day of school for Elkhart Community Schools students is scheduled for Thursday, August 17th. Families with additional questions regarding topics such as free/reduced meals, school supplies, transportation, and more can visit the following Back To School hub website:

This is really very inconvenient for all the working parents who need a regular schedule during the work week.

I don’t know what super genius came up with this idea, but it’s idiotic. If the teachers need more “development time” they should just come in early like everyone else in the workforce.
