Man in Portage arrested for allegedly stealing ambulance

A wild ride in a stolen ambulance ends with a trip to jail for a man in Portage.

On Tuesday night, a man jumped into an ambulance parked at a Family express gas station in Valparaiso and took off.

The man, whose name has not been shared by police, drove the ambulance to the Walmart on U.S. 6 in Portage and left it in the parking lot.

He was arrested and booked into the Porter County Jail, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The ambulance, which was from Tri-County Ambulance Service and EMS, was returned to its owners.

Police are still trying to figure out why the man stole the ambulance.
