Two people injured in shooting during attempted home invasion in South Bend

Two suspects trying to break into a home in South Bend ended up suffering gunshot wounds after their attempt.

South Bend Police released the following information about the case:

The South Bend Police Department is investigating a home invasion that resulted in two people shot Wednesday morning.

Around 1:50 a.m., officers responded to a citizen call for shots fired on Silver Ln. While en-route, officers were made aware of two shooting victims, one in the 900 block of Edison and the second at Memorial Hospital.

The suspect at the hospital was being treated for a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Upon investigation, officers learned both shooting victims were attempting to break into a home in the 900 block of S. Gladstone when the residents fired shots.

The suspect located in the 900 block of Edison was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. After treatment, the suspect already at Memorial was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail for an unrelated warrant.

The South Bend Police Department Shooting Response Team was called to the scene and has taken over the ongoing investigation.
