A Niles man has been sentenced to prison after leading police on a chase from Niles Township into Cass County.
Ryan Eugene Swartz, 50, pleaded guilty to second offense-meth use, fleeing police, and resisting arrest. He received concurrent sentences ranging from 16 months to five years in prison.
His defense attorney noted Swartz has mental health issues and wasn’t on his medication during the incident in July.
Swartz apologized, but the judge highlighted his ongoing need for substance abuse treatment, which he has not yet pursued.
Leader Publications reports Swartz also fled from police in 2021.
