A man was sentenced to two years in prison for a charge of auto theft after allegedly failing to return a vehicle he was test driving.

An employee of USA-1 Auto Sales told police that a man had taken a 2021 Infinity out for a test drive in January, but he never returned.

The Goshen News reports that when police went to the home of the man who reportedly took the vehicle, another resident told them she believed that the former resident was in prison.

South Bend Police received a Flock alert for the stolen vehicle a couple days later.

Police were able to learn that Brandon Bellamy had stolen an incarcerated man’s ID and used it to test drive the vehicle. Bellamy was sentenced to two and a half years at the Indiana Department of Corrections with half a year to be served on Work Release.
