Ports of Indiana celebrates new dock at Burns Harbor port

The Ports of Indiana have officially been opened up to ocean vessels with their new dock…
The Ports opened their first new dock in 20 years, last week.
It’s a $6 million project at Burns Harbor that boasts more than 500 feet of new dock space designed to welcome ocean-going ships that have come in through the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
On Thursday, “Berth 5” was opened to handle bulk shipments in the northeast harbor.
It’s part of a $77 million investment in the ports that aim to double capacity for truck traffic access, increase rail storage, add two docks, and develop Indiana’s first sea cargo container terminal.
