South Bend Police responded to reports of a disturbance and crowd near Washington and Wellington Streets.

The incident, which occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, Sep. 1, escalated when a South Bend Police officer reported gunfire and discharged his department-issued firearm in response.

One male victim is currently being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound. A female at the scene also sustained injuries, though her wounds do not appear to be related to gunfire. She is receiving medical treatment as well. No officers were injured in the incident.
