A collision at the intersection of Jefferson Blvd. and Ironwood Drive on Thursday evening, Aug. 29,  has left one person dead and another under investigation for suspected impairment.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m.

According to initial reports from the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team, the driver of a 2022 Kia, identified as Jatonya Meysha Pringle, 35, of South Bend, was traveling eastbound on Jefferson Blvd. at a high rate of speed.

Pringle failed to stop at a red light, crashing into a vehicle driven by Forrest Ian Anthony Gibbs, 40, also of South Bend, who was driving northbound on Ironwood Drive, according to authorities. The impact caused Gibbs’ vehicle to roll over and strike a tree.
