AES utility may abandon coal

burning coals

AES Indiana could be the first large utility in Indiana to abandon coal as a fuel source, but it is still waiting to get approval from state utility regulators.

If that change is approved, AES Indiana is poised for a $300 million conversion of the plant to burn natural gas. Experts believe natural gas is both cheaper and somewhat cleaner fuel. Earlier this month, AES Indiana said they are making $1.1 billion dollars in investments into Pike County’s energy future from 2024 to 2026.

Those include the repowering of Petersburg Generating Station Units 3 and 4 from coal to natural gas.

Get ready for your electric bill to at least double, probably much more. And for what? To satisfy some climate hoaxers that make their decisions not on science but on false narratives and flawed studies. Just because it is in the high 90s today in the last week of August does not mean the planet is over heating. It means we are smack dab in the middle of SUMMER!

$300 MILLION to go to a slightly cheaper fuel? What’s the “break even” on this investment, as in “how many years until the savings equals $300 million?” I bet it never does. This is a greenie boondoggle and should not happen.
