At least 38 pools of mosquitos have tested positive for West Nile Virus in St. Joseph County so far this year, and officials say other Indiana counties have had documented human cases of the virus as well. They say the threat of the virus will continue until a hard freeze.

They say to protect yourself from mosquitoes that may carry the virus, avoid being outdoors from dusk to dawn during prime biting time. Some symptoms of the virus may include headaches, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea or rashes.

If you think you may have West Nile Virus, health department officials recommend contacting your healthcare provider.

You can find more information or sign up for spraying alerts on the St. Joseph County Department of Health’s website.
