Whitmer is the governor of a crucial state for the election, and joins some of the biggest names in the party on the stage. Thursday is also the night that Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver her own remarks as the nominee.

Whitmer, a rising star in the party, was on the short list of potential candidates being discussed in the headlines as the calls for Biden to drop out of the race began to heat up, and was widely considered to be a possible running mate for Harris.
