The Modern Plastics site in Benton Harbor is up for auction.

Established by Walter Miller in the 1930s, the company along North Shore Drive, was known for molding parts for auto makers and Whirlpool.

It closed in 2008. Due to unpaid property taxes, Berrien County took over the property in 2020.

The 10.5-acre site, adjacent to the Golf Club at Harbor Shores and partly on Ox Creek, is in poor condition with a caved-in roof, unknown chemicals, and valuable items removed. It requires remediation before reuse.

WSJM reports it’s currently zoned for industrial use, but might be rezoned for commercial or mixed-use residential after cleanup.

The minimum bid is $752,468 to cover unpaid taxes. The online auction will take place Sep. 3. For details, visit the Berrien County auction site.
