A collection of industry leaders have been approved to create a master plan and design as part of the Indiana State Prison Redevelopment Strategy

After an announcement from the Indiana Department of Corrections last August, the community was made aware that the Michigan City prison location would be closing after the completion of a new 4,200 bed facility on the Westville Correctional Facility campus, which will replace both facilities.

A team of architecture, urban design, transportation, planning and housing development professionals will be working to figure out plans for the re-use of the Indiana State Prison site.

Aside from the analysis and research components, the team will be meeting with members of the community and will hold public workshops for brainstorming and developing a final plan. Officials say they plan to engage as many people as possible, both in-person and virtually.
