The father of a three-month-old boy who was found dead Sunday morning in Lafayette was arrested Sunday night.
The Lafayette Police Department says 28-year-old Elisard Moneus is in the Tippecanoe County Jail on suspicion of battery. They believe Elisard severely beat up Jacob’s mother at their apartment and she had to drive herself to a hospital for treatment on Saturday.
Online jail records say Elisard is charged with attempted murder, domestic battery with serious bodily injury, domestic battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery in the presence of a child.
Elisard was taken into custody in Indianapolis.
Jacob was eventually found Sunday morning in the apartment in a place that police say they would have “never thought to look” initially.
A Silver Alert was issued for Jacob Moneus on Saturday because he was “believed to be in extreme danger.” The last time he had been seen was around 12 pm Saturday. Police now think it was likely that Jacob was dead before the Silver Alert was issued.
Investigators say both the battery and Jacob Moneus’s death are still under investigation.
