Kayaker rescued after being trapped on log on Saint Joseph River

A kayaker is safe after falling out of his kayak and getting trapped on a log in the Saint Joseph River.

It happened, Saturday, Aug. 10, during Envirofest at Island Park.

An off-duty firefighter noticed the situation and quickly alerted the paramedics on duty.

Members of the swift water rescue team first tried a shallow water crossing before realizing the current was too strong to affect a safe rescue. Then, they used a boat and the kayaker was returned to shore without injury.
