The mother of a 5-year-old boy who was found dead in a suitcase is now heading to a psychiatric ward.
You may remember learning about Cairo Jordan, whose body was discovered in the woods in Washington County more than two years ago.
Police say the boy’s mother, Dejaune Anderson, went on the run following her son’s death. She was arrested in March of this year and charged with crimes including Murder and Neglect of a Dependent.
Anderson then determined that she planned to represent herself, instead of hiring an attorney. Following a mental evaluation, though, doctors think she should be moved to a psychiatric facility.
They also believe she is not competent to stand trial, and should instead be represented by her public defender.
Anderson will now undergo treatment through the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addiction. Because of this, her upcoming court dates have been canceled.
Late last year, another woman was sentenced for her role in this crime. Dawn Coleman apparently pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Murder, which resulted in her getting 25 years behind bars.
Police believe Coleman, Anderson, and Jordan had once stayed in a home together in Louisville.
Coleman later told them that she had found Anderson lying on top of Jordan, and the boy was dead. So, she helped Anderson put the boy’s body in a trash bag and a suitcase, and then take it to the woods.
