Indiana State Police are investigating a pursuit that ended in a single-vehicle fatal crash.

The crash happened just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, as the Mentone Town Marshal was patrolling State Road 25 near Princeton Street in Mentone.

The marshal tried to stop the driver of a Chevrolet Impala for speeding; however, the driver took off southbound on State Road 25.

The pursuit continued southbound from Kosciusko County into Fulton County. Shortly after crossing State Road 110, the Impala veered off of the road and struck a tree.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the juvenile driver died at the scene. A juvenile passenger was airlifted to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
